Hi. My name is Cody. You might know me as the bassist of Capitol Jay, but chances are you don't know me at all. I was born in Idaho, raised in northern MN, and reside in Mpls. I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to the Limerick blog, where band & staff members can share their news, ideas, and thoughts with you. Personally, my thoughts run on many asides and distractions, such as the out-of-context sentence about my origins. What was that all about anyway? Whatever.
I've only been alive for twenty years, but I'd like to think I've learned enough to allow me to compete in the modern world. The most important thing I've learned is honesty. If I ever want to be content with myself, I have to accept anything and everything that means something to me as valid. I love nostalgia. I'm awkward and shy around everybody, but in writing I have no problem. I have a tendency to take pleasures to excess. But writing these things straightforward makes up for any discontent I may have with myself. As long as we are all honest with ourselves, we can be much more connected and real with each other.
Which is where music comes in. Any song that is truly well-written, connects to the listener, or makes a dent in someone's life, is more than likely honest and personal. I have trouble writing songs that mean something to me, much less the listener, but the only songs I write that make me proud are the ones that are brutally honest, no matter how much it may embarrass or, in some sense, ridicule my own life. If I'm honest with myself, I know that I can at least respect myself. I believe that Limerick, as a group of musicians, benefits from this overall viewpoint. So, in light of the beginning of the Limerick website, blog, and, shit, the label itself, we can all take a few minutes to reflect on how much this endeavour means to us all, and how far we are willing to take our honesty.
Thanks for reading, and keep checking the Lim3rick website for updates and such. You never know what you'll find.
Love,
Cody Westby
PS sry for the lame insight, but I wanted to write something. Does an apology contradict what I just said? er, hey, look over there /point
